I had the wonderful opportunity to spend the last week in Trappe, MD (Thank you to Sam and the Chavises).
It is easy to feel frustrated by painting when the scene you are looking at (a sunrise, for example) is so incomparably beautiful. In these cases especially, the perceived threat of irredeemable self-disappointment can quickly shut down creative flow. I often fear that I might be in the process of making a painting so terrible that I give up art forever. Perpetually bringing awareness to this fear helps to diffuse it and allow me to concentrate on the real problems of painting.

<---Also had the opportunity to see some great mixed media pieces by Katherine K. Allen at the Academy Art Museum in Easton, MD.
